Last night at New York’s Plaza Hotel, WWD gathered designers and CEOs for the opening night dinner of its two-day Apparel & Retail CEO Summit. The evening was headlined by a talk with Marc Jacobs, during which the designer fielded questions about his lack of recent tabloid coverage (“Well, not since Kanye and Kim are [pregnant]…I guess I’m just old news”), his love for fashion (“I mean, I certainly wouldn’t suffer all the stress that comes with this job if I didn’t really love it”), and, as posited by Martha Stewart on behalf of her Twitter followers, his favorite porn star (“My favorite ex-porn star is a guy named Eddie”).
Contrary to Karl Lagerfeld, who is scheduled to be interviewed at the Summit today, Jacobs said he couldn’t see himself designing cars or anything besides fashion.
“I’m not a frustrated architect, I don’t want to do costumes for a movie, I don’t want to design furniture, decorate houses,” Jacobs noted. “No, this is really actually the only thing I’ve ever wanted to do.” He did mention his makeup line with Sephora is slated to launch this fall, however.
In the dinner audience, Proenza Schouler’s Jack McCollough—fresh off a ski vacation in Switzerland—shared his big news so far for 2013: “We just bought a new house, so we’re moving in right after the [Fall 2013] show.” Pamela Love, who recently returned from a trip to the rainforest in Suriname, has resolved “to spend less money and try to actually go to the gym” this year, she shared. And as for Olivier Theyskens: “I’m very happy with 2012, and I want 2013 to be a good continuation.”
